S.F.U.
A fuse consists of a metal strip of small cross-section compared to the circuit conductors, mounted between a pair of electrical terminals. The fuses are connected in series to carry all the current passing through the protective circuit. An SFU is placed in a starter of a feeder circuit along with contactors and relays. The fuse element in SFU absorbs the excess current coming from supply so as to provide rated current to motor. The basic difference between an SFU and normal fuse is that, it has one switch unit and one fuse unit [4]. When we operate the breaker the contact will close through switch unit and then supply will pass through fuse unit to motor. These SFUȂs are designed to make the installation and connection of sub main or system extension easy. Circuit breaker can be used as an alternative design relative to fuses but they have significant different characterstics in low voltage switchgear and against short circuits.
