A roller conveyor is a conveyor that consists of a series of parallel rotating bars that move goods along to their end destination. Roller conveyors are used in environments like warehouses and manufacturing facilities. They can also be fitted inside certain types of equipment, such as tortilla machines that produce tortillas automatically and run them down a roller conveyor to allow them to cool after they are made. Likewise, manufacturing of some types of candy often involves a roller conveyor for cooling.

  • The design of a roller conveyor consists of a series of tubes mounted at set intervals. The tubes rotate at the same rate and in the same direction to push objects along the top of the conveyor.
  • Setting the conveyor at an angle can also help to propel objects along. The device may have equipment located alongside to perform various functions such as sealing packages, and employees can also be stationed along the conveyor to manipulate objects as they pass by.

One disadvantage of the roller conveyor is objects can fall through the rollers or be awkwardly shaped and sized and thus not move along the conveyor very well.

An ideal application for this kind of equipment is on packaging lines, where boxes of uniform size and shape can move easily down a roller conveyor. Likewise, when air circulation around a product is needed as it moves down the line, as seen with candies, the roller conveyor can be very useful.

M.S. Chain Conveyor for Material Movement in Production Lines

  • Chain conveyors utilize a powered continuous chain arrangement, carrying a series of single pendants. The chain arrangement is driven by a motor, and the material suspended on the pendants are conveyed.
  • Chain conveyors are used for moving products down an assembly line and/or around a manufacturing or warehousing facility.

Chain conveyors are primarily used to transport heavy unit loads, e.g. pallets, grid boxes, and industrial containers. These conveyors can be single or double chain strand in configuration. The load is positioned on the chains, the friction pulls the load forward. Chain conveyors are generally easy to install and have very minimum maintenance for users

Telescopic Conveyor

Techno Drive Telescopic Conveyors are used in many areas for loading & unloading boxes, cases, bags etc. from containers (both 40 ft & 20 ft), trucks, trailers etc.

Loading & unloading operations could be performed safely, quickly and efficiently by moving the telescopic boom forward & backwards also by changing rotation of belt either forward or reverse. The conveyor enters completely into the truck & it could be gradually retracted / extended / raised / lowered during loading or unloading process according to operator’s convenience through the front or main control panel. These conveyors are normally mounted on the ground at the loading / unloading bays.

Features:

  • Belt & telescopic(boom) drives are electrically operated, whereas raising / lowering mechanism is by hydraulic.
  • Belt speed & telescopic speed could be varied by VFD(Variable Frequency Drive).
  • Loading capacity of the conveyor is upto50 – 60 kg per linear metre.
  • Main control panel placed at the side of the conveyor &remote panel is at the front end having safety bar. Front remote panel supply is 24 V DC to prevent electric shock.
  • Head lamps provided on the front panel for visibility inside the containers.
  • Roller conveyors are provided at the feed end for smooth loading of the boxes.
  • Conveyors can be manufactured in two / three stage extension booms depending on the extension length required.
  • Optional features such as box counters & belt stop when product reaches the discharge end to prevent falling from conveyor, could be provided on request.

  • Manpower Saving: There is huge man power savings by using telescopic conveyors, which requires minimum 2 labours whereas the conventional loading requires at least 7-8 personnel for the same application.

Belt Conveyors to Move Heavy Objects

A belt conveyor is a system of pulleys with a long loop of fabric or other material stretched between them. Usually at least one of the pulleys is motorized to pull the belt along with it. They are used to conveniently move heavy objects from one part of a processing facility to another. They can be extremely complex or quite simple.

  • The belt provides a continuous surface on which to place boxes or other objects. It is almost always made of two different types of material that have been fixed together.
  • The inside of the belt is rough and strong, so as to stand up to the wear and tear of being pulled along by motorized wheels.
  • The outer layer, which is the layer that workers use to convey materials, is usually softer and more impact resistant. It is common to treat it with some sort of nonskid surface, since there is no reason to take a chance that objects might bounce off if placed roughly or fall off if the conveyor has to take a turn.
  • Rubber and plastic are both ideal for the belt material.

Belt conveyors have traditionally had difficulty navigating corners or tight turns. Most belt and pulley systems need to be in a straight line in order to function properly. However, most warehouses do not offer such clear paths between where the objects are and where they need to be conveyed to. In that situation, most complexes use a series of belt conveyor systems.

When there is a corner that must be gone around, they will design a series of small conveyors, each of which is at the appropriate angle to make the turn gently.

Certain specialized belt conveyor systems, like the baggage carousels in an airport terminal, are designed to work at an angle. This is not an option in most workplaces. There is many more than one type of belt conveyor in use in an airport, and they each have their own unique function.

Warehouses and packaging facilities use belt conveyors that are superficially similar to the conveyors used by airport baggage handlers to get checked luggage from the front desk to the airplane, but it is very rare for a business to need the combination of easy access from a diverse group of people and constant operation that inspired airport terminals to develop the baggage claim carousel.

Most belt conveyors in the workplace are much simpler in function and less durable in material.
