Description and Use The Purtrex depth filter (Figure 1), is an exceptional value for general applications where long life, high purity and low change-out frequency are required. Produced through GE Water & Process Technologies’ patented melt blown microfiber technology, Purtrex is a 100% pure polypropylene depth filter with exceptional dirt-holding capacity. Purtrex’ true-graded density filter matrix (lower density at the surface of the filter with progressively higher density toward the center) captures particles throughout the entire filter depth. This translates to longer life and fewer change-outs than existing string-wound or resin-bonded filters. Purtrex contains no wetting agents, solvents, antistatic agents or binders, and meets the requirements of the FDA for food and beverage contact. The filter incinerates to trace ash for easy disposal.

Description and Use CorTrol™ OS5601 is designed for the control of corrosion due to dissolved oxygen in makeup and feedwater systems. Removal or reduction of oxygen and improved feedwater conditioning contributes to iron passivation for greater operational reliability. CorTrol OS5601 is an aqueous organic oxygen scavenger, which does not contribute to inorganic boiler water solids. In addition, this material has very low toxicity. This product is suitable for use in paper mills where paper or paperboard products may contact food (21 CFR 176.170 and 21 CFR 176.180). It is not acceptable for use in systems with direct food contact with steam (21 CFR 173.310) or for systems with steam humidification. Typical Applications Even with good deaerating heater operation, sufficient dissolved oxygen can remain in feedwater to damage the boiler system. Low levels of dissolved oxygen are critical to highpressure (high temperature) systems. Oxygen in water produces pitting which is particularly severe because of its localised nature. Economisers and feedwater heaters are especially susceptible to oxygen attack. While CorTrol OS5601 can effectively be used in low-pressure boilers systems, it was developed as an oxygen scavenger for higherpressure applications where boiler water solids are a major concern. When feedwater containing an inorganic oxygen scavenger is used for attemperation, harmful deposits on superheater tubes and/or turbines may result. Because CorTrol OS5601 contributes no inorganic dissolved solid, it is preferable to other inorganic scavengers when feedwater is used for attemperation. CorTrol OS5601 is also suitable in petrochemical plants because it does not affect sulfur-sensitive catalysts. CorTrol OS5601 has a negligible impact on steam purity and cation conductivity in condensate. Treatment and Feeding Requirements Feedpoint - Feed to a drop leg between the deaerator scrubbing section and the storage section or directly to the deaerator storage section. CorTrol OS5601 can also be fed to the feedwater line. Dilution - Use good quality condensate, demineralised water or deaerated feedwater to make a convenient feeding strength. The product may be diluted in any proportion. Mild agitation should be provided for initial mixing only. Equipment - Polyolefin chemical feed tanks and storage tanks should be used. Mild steel pumps, valves, and chemical feedlines are acceptable. This product is suitable for use with PaceSetter® automated feed and control equipment.
