Shot Peening Machines

The shot peening is a cold working process in which the surface of a part is bombarded with small spherical media called shot. Each piece of shot striking the material acts as a tiny peening hammer, imparting to the surface a small indentation of dimple. In order for the dimple to be created, the surface fibers or the material must be yielded in tension. Below the surface, the fibers try to restore the surface to its original shape, thereby producing below the dimple, a hemisphere of cold-worked material highly stressed in compression. Overlapping dimples develop an even layer of metal in residual compressive stress. It is well known that cracks will not initiate or propagate in a compressively stressed zone since nearly all fatigue and stress corrosion failures originate at the surface of a part, compressive stresses induced by shot peening provide considerable increases in part life. The maximum compressive residual stress produced at or under the surface of a part, by shot peening is at least as great as half the yield strength of the being peened. Many materials will also increase in surface hardness due to the cold working effect of shot peening. 

Benefits obtained by shot peening are the result of the effect of the compressive stress and the cold working induced. Compressive stresses are beneficial in increasing resistance to fatigue failures, corrosion fatigue, stress corrosion cracking, hydrogen assisted cracking, fretting, galling and erosion caused by cavitation. Benefits obtained due to cold working include work hardening, intergranular corrosion resistance, surface texturing, closing of porosity and testing the bond of coatings. Both compressive stresses and cold working effects are used in the application of shot peening in forming metal parts.

RESIDUAL COMPRESSIVE STRESS .
Residual stresses are those stresses remaining in a part after all manufacturing operations are completed, and with no external load applied. These residual stresses can be either tensile or compressive. For example, a welded joint will contain high magnitude residual tensile stresses in the heat affected zone adjacent to the weld.

Conversely the surface of induction hardened components may contain residual compressive. In most applications for shot peeing, the benefit obtained is the direct result of the residual compressive stress produced, A typical profile of residual compressive stress produced. A typical profile of residual compressive stress as it changes with depth is shown in figure below.

All conditions for Shot peening process in the component drawing will be fully met with and practically demonstrated at our works to the entire satisfaction of quality engineers. We also train people on site for operation and maintenance of machines. We design & supply suitable fixtures for Almen strip holders to simulate the practical working conditions of components we also supply accessories like Almen Gauge, Almen strips holder fixtures etc along with the machines. Tumblast Type Shot Blasting Machines

In these machine the jobs get tumbled while blasting cleaning hence cleaning from all sides, breaking of all sharp edges is excellent. The loading/ unloading is very easy. However delicate thin walled jobs, or jobs with fins or machined components are not advisable to be blast cleaned in these type of machines. We make Presently two models, with Rubber Belt in this type.

Tumblast - 27” x 36” 

Both models are available with Auto Loader as extra optional


D) TUMBLING BARREL TYPE 

These machines are economical, occupies less floor space and suitable for small parts. 
Small foundries, and forging industries investment castings prefer this design. 
The Barrel size can be varied as per customer requirement .

Swing Table Type Shot Blasting Machine

These machine are universal type shot blasting machine wherein any variety of components can be loaded on the table either manually or with lifting mechanism. The shot firing being only from top side jobs are required to be turned to expose all sides to the shot flow. The jobs which otherwise can not be hang or tumbled and very heavy are most suitable for this type of machine. We make following standard table sizes Any other size can also be made on request. 

Glint- T- 30 With single /double /door table dia 30” 
Glint- T- 48 with single /double /door table dia 48” 
Glint- T- 72 with single / double /door table dia 72” 
Glint- T- 96 with single / double / door table dia 96” 
These swing can be increased in smaller models to suit some typical jobs which otherwise will need higher size machine. 

These machines are most suitable for small and medium size of jobs like Gears castings Forgings, Fabricated jobs etc. since the shots are impinged form top and bottom side and the hanger with components rotate about its own axis, the componets are cleaned from all sides at a time. The productivity of these machines is very high and it can be further enhanced by incorporating monorail type conveying system, so that components can be loaded and unloaded at exact destination points. We make 3 model in this design. 

GLINT- 350 Hanger size dia. 600 x 900 mm height. 
GLINT- 450 Hanger size dia. 1000 x 1500 mm Height. 
GLINT – 800 Hanger size dia. 1000 x 1500 mm Height. 

All machine are double door type with pit foundation or platform for ease of loading / unloading. Material handling system to suit heavy jobs can also be offered at extra optional.
