Activated Alumina
Made by de-hydroxylating aluminum hydroxide in a proprietary way to generate a high-surface porous structure, GLOBAL ALUMINOXITE range of activated alumina (Al2O3) is an amorphous compound that offers excellent adsorption characteristics for removal of a wide variety of contaminants. It has a surface area of up to 350 m2/g and is used as a desiccant and a filter to remove arsenic, fluoride and selenium from potable water.
Activated alumina is also used for a wide range of adsorbent and catalyst applications including the adsorption of catalysts in polyethylene production, in hydrogen peroxide production, as a selective adsorbent for many chemicals including arsenic, fluoride, in sulfur production from H2S (Claus Catalyst process) and alkylation of amines in refineries.

Used as a desiccant, it works by a process called adsorption. The water in the air actually sticks to the alumina itself in between the tiny passages as the air passes through them. The water molecules become trapped so that the air is dried out as it passes through the filter. This process is reversible. If the alumina desiccant is heated to ~200°C, it will release the trapped water. This process is called regenerating the desiccant. It also plays a vital part in removing arsenic and fluoride from water by surface complexation.

Activated Bleaching Earth is being used in edible and non-edible oil refinery like Rice Bran Oil, Mustard Oil,Soyabean Oil, Sunflower Oil, Sal Oil, Glycerin, Lubricating Oil etc., it helps to remove color pigments from oils and other chemicals. It can also remove the colors commonly associated with carotenoids, chlorophyll, and pheophytine.

Garnet

A properly designed multimedia filter system contains filter media of large grains on top and small grains on the bottom of the filter and provides superior performance even after many backwashings. The solid substances getting into the entire filter bed result in increased solids storage, longer filter runs and higher filtration rates.
This stable condition of large grains above finer ones is achieved by the use of filter material of different sizes and specific gravities.

Manganese dioxide (Mno2)
GLOBAL FERRONIL range of manganese di-oxide is a proven way to remove iron and manganese contamination from water. Ground water sources usually have high iron and manganese content in soluble -ous (II) form. Ferronil is an effective way to convert soluble salts of iron and manganese to insoluble -ic (III) form which can be subsequently removed by conventional filters. Manganese di-oxide oxidizes iron and manganese salts to insoluble precipitate. pH of water should be corrected to around 9 for ferrous salts and 10.5 for manganous salts. Air is injected into water to enhance the kinetics of oxidation. Residence time depends on iron and manganese load of inlet water. Manganese di-oxide is economical to use compared to greensand, offers comparable removal efficiency, but does not require handling of hazardous media for regeneration

"Manganese Greensand is formulated from glauconite greensand, a naturally occurring mineral, which is capable of reducing iron, manganese and hydrogen sulfide from water through oxidation and filtration. When the oxidizing capacity of the media is exhausted, it is regenerated with a weak solution of potassium permanganate (KMnO4). The media also offers advantages such as no or low attrition for a long service life and no harmful effects from a chlorine feed. The optimum operating conditions are 26.5 C and a pH range between 6.2 and 8.5.'

Water is passed through a fixed bed of filter media whereby the contaminants are trapped inside interconnecting void space and thereby removed. The bed can be backwashed in cycles on a pre-determined pressure drop or backwashing can simply be done after fixed time intervals.
