Description : Permethrin is a synthetic pyrethroid non-systemic insecticide with contact and stomach action, having a slight repellent property. It is also used for insect control in animal houses and in public health, for ectoparasite control on animals and as a wool preservative.
Chemical Name : (3-phenoxyphenyl)methyl 3-(2,2-dichloroethenyl)-2,2 dimethylcyclopropanecarboxylate

a) Appearance : Yellowish brown viscous liquid to semi solid crystalline mass at 20OC
b) Permethrin content by GLC : 94% (w/w) minimum
c) Acidity as 3-(2,2-dichloro -vinyl), 2,2-dimethyle cyclopropane carboxylic acid : 0.5% (w/w) maximum
d) Density at 25OC gm/ml : 1.19-1.27
e) Cis-trans ratio by GLC : Cis : minimum 40, Trans : maximum 60
Grades : Permethrin with different cis : trans ratio i.e. normal cis (50%) and low cis (25%) is also available.
Formulations : Emulsifiable concentrates 25%,50% w/w.
Compatibility : Compatible with many insecticides and fungicides. Mixing with calcium nitrate is not recommended.
Toxicity :
a) Mammalian toxicity : WHO classification : Class II “moderately hazardous”. It is non-irritant to skin and eyes.
b) Environmental toxicity : It is toxic to fish. Under field conditions, it is non-toxic to bees and earthworms.
Shelf-life : Two years under normal storage conditions.
