Longitudinal Finned Tubes welded configuration can be used for practically any heat transfer application, and is particularly suited to high temperature, high pressure applications with high fin-side temperatures. The choice of longitudinal finned tubes versus helical finned tubes seems to be governed mainly by geometric considerations. For example, some heater configurations consist of finned tubes inserted inside other tubes longitudinal finned tubes are the obvious choice for such applications. In other cases, users prefer longitudinal finned tubes for installations where the tube will be oriented in a vertical direction the fin orientation facilitates fluid drainage on the fin side of the tube. The longitudinal fin configuration is most commonly used in shell and tube type applications such as in double-pipe and multi-pipe heat exchangers where the longitudinal finned tube is telescoped inside the bore of a larger tube shell. Heat is transferred between the fluid passing through the bore of the finned tube and the fluid passing through the bore of the shell. Fluids passing through the bore of the shell are forced between the longitudinal fins. In this case, a helical fin would block the flow of the fluid, rather than allowing the fluid to run between the fins.

The method of attaching the fins over tube is of prime importance, since even a slightest air gap between the tube and fins will defeat the whole purpose of fins over the tube.

When the heat transfer coefficient on the outside of the tube is significantly lower than the heat transfer coefficient on the inside of the tube, there is a major advantage to incorporate fins on the outside tube surface to take full advantage of the high heat transfer rate on the inside of the tube.

A calorifier is an indirect-fired water heater to provide hot water in a heating and hot water system. Indirect fired means the water heater does not contain a burner. It is a storage water cylinder with one or more heat exchanger coils which contain hot liquids (water or solar fluid).
As an indirect fired water heater cannot produce the heat itself due to the missing burner, it relies on an external heat source such as e. g. a boiler or solar collectors. These heat up the liquid in the heat exchanger coil which in turn heat up the water contained in the vessel.
Thermal fluid heating is a type of indirect heating in which a liquid phase heat transfer medium is heated and circulated to one or more heat energy users within a closed loop system. Thermal oil, glycol, and water are common heat transfer mediums for these systems.

Operations/ Functions
The Ice Machine & Harvesting section of the plant consists of the Brine Tank, an electrically operated Lifting Device (Crane) running on rails along the sides of the tank, a Thawing Tank, a Tilting Device with an inclined Wooden Table to receive the ice blocks as they slide out of the cans and a filler. Standard Rectangular 25,50 & 150 kg Ice cans, the brine tank is covered with solid Wooden Lids as shown on the picture.
The Machine Room occupies the rear the Machine Room accommodates the Brine Chiller with the Liquid Separator the Brine Recirculation Pump the Air or water Cooled condenser the Refrigerant Receiver the Electric Switch Board and other accessories which are connected to one another through refrigerant and brine piping as shown on the piping Diagram and the electrical wiring Cold pips and vessels are insulated as required.
The refrigerant evaporating in the brine chiller cools the brine the cold carrier which is recirculated by the brine Pump from the Brine Tank through the brine chiller and back to the brine tank. The recirculated quantity is sufficient to facilitate adequate agitation in the brine tank. Removal of the process heat takes place in the Air or water Cooled condenser. Liquid refrigerant collects in the Liquid Receiver from where it passes over an expansion device back to the Brine Chiller.
The Refrigeration capacity required to maintain the temperature in the ice storage is small compared to that of the block ice plant, Therefore, to simplify design and minimize service and maintenance work, The Ice Storage is cooled with the ice Storage is cooled with an Air-Cooler Refrigerator through brine pumped from the brine Tank, for which a small brine pump is provided.
The Two main sections of the plant, namely the Ice making & Harvesting and the Machine Room & Ice Storage are Placed Side by Side on the Installation site and Interconnected by the supply and Return Lines for the brine and Electric Power Supply for Harvesting and Lighting.
