Iron Ore Mines

PIL, as a part of backward integration policy, has always insisted on being self-reliant to strengthen itself and to ensure uninterrupted supply of quality raw materials to its integrated steel plant at Champa.

Company has been allotted Iron Ore mines in the state of Chattisgarh and Orissa, which will ensure consistent availability of quality Iron ore for the integrated steel plant.

To make its mark in the industry. PIL has ventured into activities that have led the company transform into a cohesive Steel and Power producing unit. For this, Prakash Industries Limited setup Sponge Iron Kilns at Champa (Chattisgarh) in technical collaboration with Lurgi Germany.

Quality has been the essence of every activity at PIL. Besides emphasis on supply of quality products, PIL has always looked forward to maximize the utilization of its resources. These are the measures that have helped the company move at faster growth rate with significant reduction in the cost of production.

Being an integrated Steel and Power Company, the company has used the high quality Sponge Iron produced in the Sponge Iron Kilns for its internal consumption in its own steel plant. This not only enables cost effective manufacturing of steel but also ensures consistent availability of quality raw material for its finished steel products.
 

Power

Beginning with power generation in its captive power plant, Prakash Industries Ltd. has also covered a long way in power generation sector. Over the years Power Generation has developed as a full fledged business adding profits vertically to the company. The company is presently operating a 100 MW captive power plant using Waste Heat Recovery Boilers and Fluidized Bed Boilers. By using the boilers based on using low quality fuel and waste gases, company is committed towards harnessing energy by using waste resources and other innovative and creative ideas.

Continuing its endeavors in the segment, the company is expanding its power generation capacities from existing 100 MW to 725 MW. The proposed power plant will enable the company to secure its own long-term power needs while the surplus power will be sold to potential customers through open access. 
 

Steel Melting Shop

Company is producing high quality Steel Billets /Blooms in the Steel Melting Shop. The prime raw materials used are Sponge Iron, Pig Iron and MS scrap, out of which majority is the Sponge Iron being sourced from the Sponge Iron Kilns of the company. This not only ensures availability of quality sponge iron for the steel operations but also results in cost effective operations.

Ferro Alloys

As Ferro Alloys are the primary raw material used for manufacturing steel, company also forayed into the production off Ferro-Alloys to ensure supply of quality input to its steel operations.

In this effort to draw the synergies of a comprehensive set of aligned products, company has set up manufacturing facilities for production of Ferro-Alloys in submerged Arc Furnaces. This not only meets the in-house requirement for steel operations but also generates additional revenues by selling the surplus quantities in the market. The entire power of requirement for the Submerged Arc Furnaces is met from the Captive Power plant of the company.

Wire Rod Mill

Wire Rod Mill

Towards forward integration of the processes, company has set up Wire Rod manufacturing & Wire Drawing facilities (HB Wire) at Raipur for manufacturing high quality Wire Rod of sizes 5.0 mm, 5.5 mm, 6.5 mm, 7 mm, 8 mm & 10 mm and HB wire of sizes 6 gauge to 14 Gauge with best available technology and plant & machinery support. 

Since the raw material i.e. Steel Billets /Blooms is manufactured in the Steel Melting Shop at Champa, the company is able to produce high quality Wire Rod & H.B. Wire in an efficient & cost effective manner.

These products are used for various applications including Binding wire, Gl wire, Barbed wire for fencing, Armored sealed wire for heavy electrical cables, Nut bolts, Nails, screws, Alpine. Wire ropes. Wire mesh etc.

With growing demands of TMT Bars due to substantial increase in construction and infrastructure projects in the country, Company has also set up a TMT mill with most advance technology equipment to manufacture high quality TMT bars to further enhance its product range.

"No Twist Block Technology" has been used in this mill to maintain best surface finish and other desired features in the TMT bars.

Since conventional fuel, such as petroleum, coal & gas are depleting day by day, Prakash Industries Ltd. has also opted for the Non-conventional method of power generation i.e. generation of energy from Wind as a step towards conservation of natural resources of the country. 

Wind Energy conversion is also a proven technology and has reached a level of sophistication and atomization. Prakash Industries Ltd. has set up Wind Power Generating Farms at Muppandal in the state of Tamilnadu. Because of the favorable wind conditions, this location is very suitable for highly efficient operations. The plant and machinery installed is state of the art technology supplied by one of the leading manufacturers having Danish collaboration. From the time of launch of the Wind Power Project, PIL has come a long way by having established itself as an important player in this sector.
